Introduction
In collaboration with Academia Sinica, National Taiwan University and National Tsing Hua University, the Nano Science and Technology Program offers multi-discipline training and research opportunities to Ph.D. students. Also, together with the support from Academia Sinica Research Program on Nanoscience and Technology, a whole array of high-tech laboratory equipment and facilities for teaching and research are available for students. A large number of excellent faculty members in this program devote their specialties and expertise in nano science, benefiting greatly both the Nano program and the development of nano technology.
The research topics of the program include, but are not limited to, synthesis of new nanomaterials and structures, characterization of nanomaterials and nanostructures, theoretical modeling and calculations, nanodevices engineering and nano-biotechnology. To enrich students’ knowledge in these areas and equip them for further research, the program offers various core courses to help them acquire the foundations of nanotechnology. At the same time, due to the vast scope of nanotechnology and rapid development, more specialized courses seem to be essential. The program offers several advanced courses, such as optics, mesoscopic physics, and practical hands-on training as well, such as TEM. The objective of these courses is not just to train students to specialize in a certain area, but help them to explore and determine their research directions. Through the course training, they will learn how to seek resources and build cooperation with experts and professionals in the fields they are interested in.
The Nano Science and Technology Program provides high-end facilities, diverse expertise, and, more importantly, close collaboration among scientists and engineers of all the participating units. It provides students with an excellent opportunity to cultivate their research interests, and to develop their creativity and skills in problem defining and problem solving.
