About Academia Sinica
|
|
|
Founded nearly eight decades ago in 1928, Academia Sinica achieves its present success with the dedicated support of Taiwan's government, the diligent research of our scholars and vital contributions from our administration. Propelled by the efforts of more than 1000 researchers from both Taiwan and abroad, Academia Sinica has gained worldwide recognition for cutting edge research in an increasingly diverse array of fields.
As the foremost research institution of Taiwan, the mission of Academia Sinica goes beyond the pursuit of rigorous, in-depth academic research. Our efforts are much broader in scope and are driven by both practical and visionary goals:
- to promote international cooperation and scholarly exchanges;
- to cultivate an intellectual environment to nurture young scholars;
- to harness basic research results for applications and technology transfer;
- to engage the academic and research communities of Taiwan in the pursuit of a modern, forward-looking collective academic vision.
At present, Academia Sinica is home to 25 research institutes and hosts 5 research centers under its three divisions: the Division of Mathematics and Physical Sciences; the Division of Life Sciences and the Division of the Humanities and Social Sciences.
Our Division of Life Sciences currently includes 5 research institutes:
- Institute of Botany
- Institute of Zoology
- Institute of Biological Chemistry
- Institute of Biomedical Sciences
- Institute of Molcular Biology
as well as 2 newly established research centers—the Genomics Research Center (since 2004) and the Research Center for Biodiversity (since 2003).
