Director's Welcome

Dear friends,

Academia Sinica, the preeminent research institution in Taiwan, is pleased to announce that its Taiwan International Graduate Program (TIGP) is now accepting applications for the 2007-208 academic year.

Academia Sinica has always been a research organization since its founding almost eighty years ago. However, as we moved into the new millennium, it became clear that we have to change with the times in order to meet the current and future needs of the academic community. Among the many urgent needs, training qualified and creative young scientists is one of the most important tasks. In 2001, President Yuan T. Lee met with researchers and members of the Academy to address this issue. In 2002, TIGP was established as part of Academia Sinica¡¦s efforts to meet this challenge.

In 2007, TIGP will offer eight Ph.D. degree-granting programs in the fields of Chemical Biology and Molecular Biophysics, Molecular Science and Technology, Molecular and Biological Agriculture Sciences, Molecular and cell Biology, Bioinformatics, Nano Science and Technology, Molecular Medicine and Computational Linguistics and Chinese Language Processing.

Our Ph. D. programs are well organized and provide the most advanced scientific training and research environments. They include the following features. First, we work closely with our university partners to ensure the best teaching support. Second, the learning environment at TIGP is an international one, where all courses will be conducted in English, allowing students ample opportunities for discussion and interaction with renowned scholars and fellow students. Third, our tuition rates are affordable to students. Scholarships are also available for those who qualify.

TIGP offers excellent opportunities to those who wish to do advanced research in a mature international academic setting. We look forward to welcoming you on our campus.

With sincere and best regards,

Chao-Han Liu, Ph.D.
