About
TIGP
Founded in
1928, Academia Sinica is the foremost research institute in
Taiwan. More than one thousand researchers from Taiwan and
abroad, most of them accomplished scholars in their respective
fields, workˇ@ within the Academia Sinica's twenty-eight
research institutes.
The mission of
the Academia Sinica is to undertake in-depth academic research
on various subjects in the sciences and humanities, and to
provide guidelines, channels of coordination, and incentives
geared toward raising academic standards in Taiwan.
In addition to
its research institutes, Academia Sinica's Convocation
consists of 225 members, who are all prominent scholars. This
body is an advisory arm of the Academia Sinica. Every two
years members from all over the world, including six Nobel
laureates, meet in Taipei to consult on major issues
concerning education, humanities, science, and technology.
In accord with the current trend for
educational internationalization, Academia Sinica set up the
Taiwan International Graduate Program (TIGP) in order to
attract young scholars to its campus for Ph.D. programs. In
corporation with the top universities in Taiwan, TIGP will
offer eight programs in 2006. All courses will be conducted in
English and research grants are available for qualified
students. TIGP is a unique and exciting intellectual community
that will provide young scholars with tremendous opportunities
for academic and personal growth.
