Academia Sinica offers an exciting intellectual environment with state-of-the-art research facilities and access to world-class faculty members. Academia Sinica is partnered with schools of excellence Taiwan wide, ensuring students have unsurpassed academic and learning support. Students will be working in an intellectually stimulating, rigorous, interdisciplinary education environment. Below are the eight TIGP graduate options with links to the corresponding partner universities.
Founded in 1928, Academia Sinica owes its present success to the support of the Taiwanese people through government backing, expert research capabilities of our faculty, and essential contributions of administrative staff. The invaluable efforts of over a 1000 researchers from both Taiwan and abroad have given Academia Sinica worldwide recognition for cutting-edge research in a wide variety of fields.
As the foremost research institution on Taiwan, the mission of Academia Sinica goes beyond the pursuit of rigorous, in-depth academic research. Academia Sinica aims:
to promote international cooperation and scholarly exchanges;
to cultivate an intellectual environment for nurturing young scholars;
to harness and transfer the results of basic research into practical applications;
to ensure Taiwan has a modern, forward-looking collective academic vision through engagement with academic and research communities.
At present, Academia Sinica is home to 24 research institutes and 7 research centers. These institutes and research centers come under three separate divisions. They are the Division of Mathematics and Physical Sciences; the Division of Life Sciences, and the Division of the Humanities and Social Sciences.
offers an exciting intellectual environment with world-class faculty and state-of-the-art research facilities. We also recognize the importance of engaging classroom discussions, conferences, and other scholarly and practical components as being vital to a successful and rewarding interdisciplinary education.
While TIGP makes the most of Academia Sinica’s campus, its partnerships with Taiwan’s top universities broadens TIGP students’ access to a wide range of faculty and exceptional academic support. The TIGP experience goes way beyond coursework and research; candidates enjoy participating in seminars, travel, and classes with like minded members of the scientific community and general public.
Additional Opportunities within the TIGP Experience
In addition to general and program-specific coursework and research, TIGP encourages students to take advantage of teaching opportunities, travel, networking, and other enrichment activities. These may include (but are not limited to) the following:
Students are invited to nominate scholars from a variety of disciplines to give presentations on their research and personal experiences.
With connections to numerous research institutions the world over, Academia Sinica can open doors for students seeking to access greater research input.
Students will acquire first-hand teaching experience by assisting in classes and/or workshops. In this way, they will gain valuable practical experience and refine their presentation skills.
TIGP offers an awards program to recognize student achievement, and organizes scientific career fairs to assist students’ transition into professional working life.
With students from over 40 nations, and courses and seminars conducted in English, students will find the learning environment at TIGP to be truly international.
TIGP's Conference Travel Grant offers an excellent opportunity for TIGP students to attend conferences abroad. By reimbursing partial of the student's registration fee, airfare, and lodging expenses at a professional conference where the student's will be presenting a scholarly paper/poster, we hope that TIGP students not only receive a professional training at Academia Sinica, but also share and experience the most advanced, cutting-edge knowledge in their own research fields. For details of the travel grant, please see the guidelines below:
